Caregiver Support

Who is a family caregiver and what do they do?

A family caregiver is a wife, husband, adult child or other family member or friend who provides assistance to a loved one who is ill, frail, has dementia or just needs some help in order to remain as independent as possible. A family caregiver can care for someone who lives at home, in a nursing home, down the road or across the country.A grandparent raising a grandchild is also a family caregiver.

Taking care of yourself…so you can take care of your loved one.

As a caregiver you have the right to care for yourself. The stress of caregiving can cause increased health problems, disrupted relationships, depression and it can decrease your ability to give good care...and to give care in a loving way. Both you and the family member you care for will benefit from you taking care of you.
