About Us

Helping People Age with Independence and Dignity

The Area Agency on Aging for Northeastern Vermont is a private, non-profit organization with a mission to help people age with independence and dignity. The Agency has been designated under the Older Americans Act as the Area Agency on Aging for Caledonia, Essex and Orleans Counties.

This designation means that the Agency carries out programs that establish a coordinated system of services for older persons in this region. We are one of five Area Agencies on Aging in Vermont (sometimes known as Councils on Aging). View the list of the other four Agencies serving Vermont.

Since 1979, this Agency has been providing nutrition and supportive services to seniors in the Northeast Kingdom. Anyone who is 60 or older (or a spouse) is eligible to participate in programs provided by the Agency and in most cases we can serve people regardless of their income. However, we do encourage people to contribute toward the cost of the service if they are able.

The Area Agency on Aging is governed by a Board of Directors, has 32 employees and many volunteers. Some services, such as Information and Assistance and Case Management, are provided directly by Agency staff. Other programs, such as Senior Meals and Transportation, are largely contracted to other community based organizations.

Rules for acceptance and participation in our programs are the same for everyone, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability or sexual orientation.
